The No Boys Allowed College Tour is an annual event for middle and high school girls to explore the campuses of Historically Black Colleges & Universities (HBCU) throughout the U.S. In April, the NBA Founders (known as “The Quad”) traveled alongside 19 girls to HBCUs in Georgia, Florida, and South Carolina during their inaugural tour.

“The opportunity to travel with 19 young, brilliant minds was rewarding and unforgettable,” said Kara P. Simmons, NBA Founder. “These young ladies left each campus feeling empowered and enlightened about their future.”

The second annual NBA Tour is scheduled for April 1-5, 2018. Simmons and her colleagues will announce the HBCU stops during The Pep Rally—this comes after tallying votes during “The NBA HBCU Draft” social media campaign. Back in June, while The National Basketball Association’s draft was televised, over 250 people voted for HBCUs to visit in 2018 through SurveyMonkey.com.

Shaylyn Woods, Founder/Parent & Student Liaison of NBA, is a 2010 graduate of Benedict College with hopes of her school making the cut. “The wait is almost over,” she expressed. “But as an HBCU alumna, I’m very happy that our students are able to learn about the traditions and educational opportunities of these historical schools.”

In addition to the major announcement, from noon to 4 p.m. students (and parents) can:

  • Meet the Founders & Inaugural Class Members
  • Pre-Register
  • Learn about The No Boys Allowed Movement
  • Shop at the Citadel Mall

“The Citadel Mall has been very supportive of our mission, and we’re excited about hosting the Pep Rally here for a second year,” Woods added.

HBCU Alumni and members of Divine 9 are also invited to The Pep Rally; they are asked to wear their favorite school gear or paraphernalia.  A soundtrack will be provided by DJ Don Breez and special invited guests will drop by during the day.The Pep Rally will be held at the old PacSun retail store located in the Belk Wing. The Citadel Mall is located at 2070 Sam Rittenberg Blvd in West Ashley.
