Social Media Is Coming Together To Help 17-Year-Old Trumpet Player William Leathers, Who’s Been Accepted Juilliard

Social Media Helping Teen Get To Juilliard

We all know college is not cheap! Most of us with student loans understand that money is a real issue when it comes to higher education.  A 17-year-old musical genius from Toronto is feeling the financial pressure of higher education.  Luckily, he is growing up in the era of social media, and he’s able to get his story out to the world; and the world is responding.  William Leathers’ has already been accepted to Juilliard, a prestigious school for musicians, however his family has only saved about $25,000 CAD of the $91,000 CAD that it will take to get him through his first year at the institution.

Sure, lots of kids are looking for money for school and using social media as a way to assist them in getting help for the cost of tuition.  Friends of William Leathers and his family believe that this young man is deserving of the extra help. At Age 12 William Leathers was the youngest person accepted to the Toronto Symphony Youth Orchestra.  He also graduated high school 2 years early with all A’s.

Juilliard costs approximately $364,000 for four years, and as a Canadian student, Leathers does not qualify for financial aid or scholarships in America. A family friend of the musician headed to Twitter for help, and shared Leathers Crowdfunding page. So far, social media has helped to raise $54,390 of the $65,500 goal!
