Dylann Roof: 2016 Just Keeps Getting Better. Is He Competent or Nah?
Dylann’s Roof’s trial was halted last week because the court is waiting to find out if Roof is mentally competent to stand trial. The people of Charleston, SC are eager to get this trial going, however there may be a snafu on the horizon. Here are seven things you need to know about the Dylann Roof case as of today:
- Judge Richard Gergel believes that Roof may not be mentally capable of standing trial
- Judge Gergel thinks that Roof is suffering from some sort of “Mental Disease”
- The mental exam ordered on last week is not the first exam done on Dylann Roof
- By Today, Monday, November 14, the judge expects a full report on Dylann’s mental evaluation & on Wednesday, the judge will hold a hearing
- If he is found competent, Jury selection will commence November 21st
- If he is found incompetent, Roof will enter the Bureau of Prisons hospital for treatment, with the goal of “restoring him back to competence
- The defense wants Wednesday’s hearing closed and any issues regarding Roof’s competency sealed
