Billionaire Robert Smith Will Provide Full Scholarships to Chibok Girls Who Escaped from Boko Haram
If you were to look him up on Forbes where they rate billionaires across the world, the section that asks “Source of Wealth”, Robert Smith’s source is stated as, “private equity, Self Made.” Recently, this self-made billionaire was named one of the richest people in the world; tech investor Robert Smith is like our cyber version of Nebuchadnezzar. Described as quiet and lowkey, Smith makes big waves in the tech industry, simultaneously becoming a tycoon and philanthropist.
This billionaire is now doing something amazing to help the people of Nigeria. He has pledged to pay for the education of 24 girls from the Chibok region of Nigeria, most of whom escaped from Boko Haram. The Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity to the President says the scholarships will help the young girls after the trauma they have suffered.
According to Garba Shehu:
“the girls will be admitted through negotiation at the prestigious American University of Nigeria (AUN), Yola, with the American billionaire footing the entire bill of the girls’ tuition, accommodation, feeding and other related expenses. It costs anywhere from $5,000 to $11,000 a year to educate a student at the school which is owned by wealthy frontline Nigerian politician and businessman Atiku Abubakar. Smith has offered to pay for the education of the 21 released through negotiations and is offering to take responsibility for all the others who will hopefully be eventually set free.”
