Nichole Tavares-Gibbs, former First Sergeant in the United States Army, now entrepreneur with a new CBD venture in Columbia, S.C. has gone viral. Not only has Gibbs figured out a way to help deal with her incurable pain, she has launched a store in Columbia to help others who may be having medical issues, deal with their own debilitating pain.

In 2015, Gibbs’ life changed. She had a stellar career in the Army for 25 years before, what she described as migraines, began. Although the symptoms were similar to migraines, the pain was actually caused by a brain condition called Chiari malformation, which is a structural defect in the section of the brain that controls balance. This condition ended her career in the Army. The head-burning and stabbing pain proceeded to get worse after doctors performed an unsuccessful surgery. Not only did the pain get worse, Gibbs could barely hear or see, and lost function on one side of her body. Now Gibbs was dealing with pain, depression, and anxiety knowing her career was over and her body was in immense pain, and getting worse.

On NowThis, which has almost 500,000 views, Gibbs explained how she had been on opioides for so long, she had gotten accustomed to simply taking prescribed drugs in order to deal with life-debilitating pain. Not wanting to get addicted, she knew she had to look for an alternative. Finally in 2018, her pain management doctor recommended CBD oil – and since then Gibbs has never looked back.

Gibbs said the CBD oil has helped “tremendously”, and after five months of using the oils, she opened a CBD product store called Infusion 420 to help others. In her interview with NowThis, she stated:

“It’s so many people that’s suffering that need someone to tell them, you know, it’s gonna be ok. You know, yes you could have been in a bad place, but you can get better.”

Infusion 420 is the first of its kind in Columbia, South Carolina. It’s located in the heart of the city, the Vista area near USC’s main campus. Infusion 420, unlike many other CBD shops, isn’t just focused on recreational usage of CBD; the focus of Gibbs’ business is helping people heal.

“I plan to build an amazing company that makes its mark in the telecom space.”

It’s great to see another wireless company entering into the highly competitive telecommunications industry, and bringing some competition to big brands and exorbitant prices. It’s also great that this company has been created by a young, black, woman from Alabama! Tesix Wireless, started by 24-year-old Alabama entrepreneur, Chaymeriyia Moncrief, launched Summer ’18 and has gotten the attention of new customers and investors. Because of the quick interest Tesix has gained, the company already has a valuation of $5.9 million.

Tesix has a over 3,000 people ready to sign up for varying wireless plans that are sure to beat what you may be paying with AT+T, Sprint, and other companies. Moncrief decided to take on the challenge of starting her own telecom company because of her personal bad experiences with previous large carriers.

“Dealing with bill unpredictability is something that we’ve all experienced; being locked in contracts with ever-changing rates and unnecessary fees is on of the biggest issues consumers have with their carriers.”

Check out https://www.tesixwireless.com/plans , here you can see that Tesix has worked hard to simplify plans, and they have laid out exactly what users will get with each plan that comes with a flat monthly fee. Tesix Wireless is able to keep the plan prices low because, right now, they’re not opening any storefronts worldwide like most carriers. Eliminating overhead is one way to continue to keep prices down.

Montcrief understands that she has entered into a competitive market, but she hasn’t let that deter her from launching a viable company. She’s been working on this idea for five years, and has figured out how to offer rates that (1) are lower than her competitors, (2) bill customers without tacking on additional fees, (3) offer more options for customers who desire wireless, and (4) offer that personal touch with customers.

Montcrief is also no stranger to success. She grew up in Montgomery, Alabama, graduated high school in 2012. She went to Alabama State University where she majored in Business Management and Computer Science. In 2016, she also launched a Branding Studio and built an award-winning agency that had 3 locations in a span of 2 years.

“To be able to be in a moment where a company that i have started is valued at millions before its even launched is just beyond me. If Tesix has gained this level of valuation now, it is only more exciting to see where it’s going. I plan to build an amazing company that makes its mark in the telecom space,” Montcrief expressed.

Lyft Is Out Here Helping Creators Thrive

Lyft is out here doing great things to support the creative culture in Atlanta. The company obviously has an understanding of who their ideal driver is, what they do, and the goals of many of their drivers in the Atlanta area. The ridesharing organization decided they would open a music recording studio for its Atlanta drivers, inside their main office off of Howell Mill Road in northwest Atlanta.

Sam Bond, General Manager of Lyft in the Southeast, told The Atlanta Journal Constitution, that there are a lot of artists within the driver community in Atlanta who are earning extra money as Lyft drivers to pay for studio time. The team over at Lyft started working on ideas of how they could best help some of their drivers. The Atlanta team found out that Lyft in Detroit started renting out studio time for their drivers; the southeast team decided to “one-up” the Detroit location.

Lyft Atlanta decided to open the first, dedicated recording studio that would be free for drivers to use. The studio is pretty simple; they installed a microphone and an iPad in a soundproof room. The company said that in about a month, about 20 of their drivers have put the Lyft studio to good use.

Recently, Lyft decided to contact drivers to perform at the official studio launch party and they received over 100 demos; most of which were hip hop artists. At the Lyft launch party, Yung Joc performed along with a few of the selected Lyft drivers that submitted demos.

Lyft has assured drivers that even though they record music in Lyft production studios, they will own all of their music and content. Sam Bond stated that, “this is for artists, who in many cases, need a shot,” Bond went on to say, “we don’t see this ending on the ground here in Atlanta.

Other Lyft locations across the country are now looking into similar models for their cities. This is a great example of companies who hear, understand, and are concerned with the lives of their employees – outside of work; and are here to assist them with their dreams. Great job Lyft!
