You all know about the Shade Room. It’s that very juicy website, that details all you want to know about the stars, from juicy detailed gossip to acts of kindness from various celebs; the Shade Room is the end all be all of new age celebrity entertainment.

Now we all know plenty of details about what goes down in the Shade Room, but We don’t know much about who developed the Shade Room. We figure we would delve into the creator of this booming blog and what we found was extremely…inspiring.

  1. The Shade Room has been round for approximately two years, and in that short amount of time, they have over 1.5 million followers, better known as “Roommates”
  2. There’s not much known about the founder, but we know she goes by the name of Angie.
  3. Angie is a writer; she wrote poetry and was a screenwriter who went to school to be an accountant.
  4. In 2014 Angie was fired from her accounting job for missing work to attend a screenwriting workshop at Sundance Festival.
  5. After being fired, Angie decided to become a writer full-time; she had no idea where to begin. Once she began blogging she had 200 followers her first week, after the first week, she had about 10,000 followers.
  6. Angie, whose family is from Nigeria, is only 24, lived in foster care and had never imagined herself becoming a success.
  7. Angie stated in an interview she looked to God when she hadnt made any money for about 4 months once she started blogging. That same day she opened a Big Cartel store selling ad and made enough money to pay her rent.
  8. In a 2 year period, The Shade Room’s Facebook reaches about 65 million people and their engagement is at approximately 14 million; WOW!
  9. In an interview, she confessed that she looks to the Bible before she most something too messy. Angie stated that she references a scripture about “Truth” to make sure what she posts has a reason.
  10. If Angie is able to get The Shade Room website to have the identical following that her Instagram account has, she will be able to compete directly with the likes of TMZ, which would be a major accomplishment.

Angie’s accomplishments are inspiration for many out there who are attempting to follow their passions! In May 2015, Instagram shut down The Shade Room because of some controversy, or an Instagram mistake (we are not certain); the fact that The Shade Room does not own this forum is also a huge risk, especially when a platform can simply shut it down. We look forward to seeing how Angie and The Shade Room will strategize in order to take that mega Instagram following over to their actual website, so that the can become a mainstream competitor in this entertainment jungle.

In this week’s spotlight of Y.E.S., we decided to spotlight someone who doesnt exactly need the spotlight. But, since the Y.oung E.ntrepreneur S.potlight doesn’t discriminate, we had to celebrate our girl Rihanna! Just when you think Rihanna has been kicked back somewhere basking in some of that bohemian hot sun, smoking ganja, unbothered; turns out the pop princess has been flexing her inner-mogul muscles. Though we have yet to see the highly anticipated album Anti, hit store shelves, the 27 year-old is still making major moves in the entertainment industry. The Hollywood Reporter has announced that Riri recently launched two new agencies. These two companies will focus on beauty and photography.

Rihanna along with her partner Benoit Demouy discreetly opened a beauty and stylist agency called Fr8me; Demouy was previously with the Tracey Mattingly agency. Fr8me will be based out of Los Angeles and will assist artists in booking commercials, editorial shoots, ad campaigns and red-carpet gigs. Some of the already familiar faces that will be a part of this new agency are Rihanna’s longtime makeup artist Mylah Morales, Taraji P’s wardrobe stylist Jason Bolden, Fergie, Jada Pinkett Smith and the Smith family.
In Rihanna’s interview with THR, she says “Hair, makeup and styling play an important role in creativity; I am very involved with that part of my process, so this agency was an organic thing for me to do. We are lucky enough to have some of the best artists at Fr8me, but I also have a soft spot for finding new talent with extraordinary skills!”

Along with Fr8me, the Umbrella singer also started a photo agency, calling it “A Dog Ate My Homework” already representing photographers Erik Asla and Deborah Anderson.
Rihanna’s partner Benoit Demouy says that they are aiming to have a stellar reputation, even amidst the ever changing conditions of the industry. Demouy says, “The industry’s changed so much –rates have gone down, and clients just grab images off social media, trying to bypass paying artists.”
Great to see that Rihanna is expanding her horizon and making a business investment in a tough industry that she has conquered numerous times. Rihanna will definitely bring life into the beauty and photography industries, both of which have seen a boom during this internet age. We say good luck to Riri and her crew!

Y.E.S. ! Yes, we live for young, successful entrepreneurs and that is why we’ve created Y.E.S. also known as the Young Entrepreneur’s Spotlight. In the current edition of Syllabus Magazine we take ride over to Florence, South Carolina to Addie’s Baby Paint and Wine Studio to find out the recipe for success from the creative and talented owner, Winter Moore.

In the heart of downtown Florence, you can find her bold, artsy studio where she not only has some of her area’s most eclectic events, but this is where lovers of art and wine can come and explore their creativity, while having a great time. In the current issue of Syllabus, Winter talks about what it takes in order to use the talents you already have and create and run a SUCCESSFUL business.

From graphic and web design, to body painting, Winter has mastered the art of many things. However, she has also been able to find what so many people are lacking in a business – she found her niche. In Art, she has discovered that she can love what she does everyday and she has built an enterprise from her love of Art.

In the climate of today’s economy, we are noticing a climbing trend of politicians, businessmen even churches pushing entrepreneurship and ownership. With this climing trend it is important to highlight that with hard work, consistency and talent, the goals of owning a business are possible. I believe that Winter Moore is the perfect teacher who can offer words of wisdom to those seeking to take the dive into owning their own business.

In her interview Winter dropped plenty of gems. When we asked, “what was one thing entrepreneurs are missing that prevents them from being successful”, Winter went on to explain the importance of not being afraid of making the first move. She went on to say, “waiting for the perfect time is never as smart as making progress.”

Winter went on to share many other pearls of wisdom and we look forward to sharing Winter and all of her wisdom in the current issue of Syllabus Mag.
