You may see short clips floating around the internet from a forum held tonight in Decatur, GA which looks as if there is some divisiveness, between David Banner and Lyfe Jennings, but don’t believe the hype!

Comedian and Radio host Rickey Smiley hosted a forum in Decatur, GA tonight at the House of Hope church called, “Strategy For Change”. Young Jeezy, Lyfe Jennings, David Banner, Tyrese Gibson, DC Young Fly, Dr. Bernice King, and Two Chainz among a host of others were participants at this event. WSB-TV posted the short video below on Facebook as the discussion between David Banner and Lyfe Jennings heated up. From this clip, it appears as if David Banner suggested citizens arm themselves against the police and Lyfe Jenning passionately disagreed with Banner’s solution regarding the issue of police brutality.

Here is the short, 32 second clip posted by the television station that made viewers believe there was drama at this event:

Lyfe Jennings: “You Sound Crazy, You Sound Crazy”

David Banner: “That’s fine! What we are going through is crazy”

Lyfe Jennings: “But we arent going to create more crazy by telling these people to bring fucking guns against the police. That’s stupid!”

Tyrese Gibson: “What ya’ll are not going to do is stand up while my daughter is here. Everybody sit down and calm down.”

“There’s a lot of anger, a lot of frustration, a lot of sadness,” one organizer said about what caused tempers to flare. Let’s discuss what the news didn’t show in it’s entirety below:

Based the comments and tweets of people who were actually at the event, watching 32 – seconds does not provide you with full details.

What we didn’t see the television station report are the the hundreds of comments from the attendees, most of whom stated that the “Strategy for Change” event was productive. The media also didn’t show David Banner and Lyfe Jennings as they cooled down, shook hands and hugged as the event was ending.

As the media puts their spin on these stories, we have to understand that many people are not going to agree on how we can resolve the issues plaguing our urban communities. The passion, combined with frustrations, mixed with the tired being sick and tired, is what you see between David Banner and Lyfe Jennings.

Thank you to all of the celebrities and members of that community that took their time in Decatur today to discuss plans of actions. Big thanks to our Atlanta affiliate and boots on the ground for the details. Take a look at WSB-TV’s story that was published for the 11:00 news and check out more of what Tweeters had to say below. Don’t forget, David Banner’s next stop is Charleston, S.C., this Saturday!

You have to find a silver lining within all of the dark clouds. One of our favorite film directors decided to do her part, and use her star power for good. While we continue to debate, mourn, and just sit in unbelief over what has happened over the past few days in the cases of Alton Sterling, Philando Castile, Delrawn Small and Dylan Noble, Issa Rae is making a difference.

issa2

Issa Rae made a suggestion that a scholarship fund is established for the children of Alton Sterlng via her twitter account. She took her suggestion and started the fund herself, called it the #AltonSterling Family Scholarship Fund and placed the link on twitter: gofundme.com/2d3eze7g In one day since posting the link, Issa raised $290,000. Click the link and continue to donate if you can. Kudos to Isa Rae!issa1

Meet Riri Williams, even though the details are finalized yet, she’s a 15-years-old, dark skinned, has natural hair, science genius who has recently enrolled in MIT, and she’s taking over – for right now – for your boy, Tony Stark.

In a recent Time magazine interview, Marvel writer Brian Bendis goes into detail about the Iron Man series and Riri’s impact:

TIME: How did you come up with the character of Riri Williams?

Bendis: One of the things that stuck with me when I was working in Chicago a couple of years ago on a TV show that didn’t end up airing was the amount of chaos and violence. And this story of this brilliant, young woman whose life was marred by tragedy that could have easily ended her life—just random street violence—and went off to college was very inspiring to me. I thought that was the most modern version of a superhero or superheroine story I had ever heard. And I sat with it for awhile until I had the right character and the right place.

As we’ve been slowly and hopefully very organically adding all these new characters to the Marvel Universe, it just seemed that sort of violence inspiring a young hero to rise up and act, and using her science acumen, her natural born abilities that are still raw but so ahead of where even Tony Stark was at that age, was very exciting to me.

What have we seen of her so far in the Iron Man comics?

In the latest issue of Iron Man, Tony is in a lab talking to himself, and he’s already aware that there’s some student at M.I.T. that’s reverse-engineered one of his old armors all by herself in her dorm room. He’s aware of her immediately.

What’s been the reception of the character so far (before this announcement)?

Thankfully because of my involvement in the creation of Miles Morales andJessica Jones and some other characters, it’s getting the benefit of the doubt from even the most surly fans. There are fans who say, “Show us the new stuff,” and then there are fans who say, “Don’t do anything different from when I was a kid.” So when you’re introducing new characters, you’re always going to have people getting paranoid about us ruining their childhood.

I’ve been down this road with Miles Morales, Jessica Jones, Maria Hill. I knew I was in good hands with Mike Deodato and other artists who are helping visualize Riri.

Marvel Comics’ diverse new cast has stirred some controversy among a subset of fans.

Some of the comments online, I don’t think people even realize how racist they sound. I’m not saying if you criticize you’re a racist, but if someone writes, “Why do we need Riri Williams we already have Miles?” that’s a weird thing to say. They’re individuals just like Captain America and Cyclops are individuals. All I can do is state my case for the character, and maybe they’ll realize over time that that’s not the most progressive thinking.

But increasingly we see less and less of that. Once Miles hit, and Kamala Khan hit and female Thor hit—there was a part of an audience crawling through the desert looking for an oasis when it came to representation, and now that it’s here, you’ll go online and be greeted with this wave of love.

I think what’s most important is that the character is created in an organic setting. We never had a meeting saying, “we need to create this character.” It’s inspired by the world around me and not seeing that represented enough in popular culture.

Log on to Time Magazine to read the rest of this fascinating interview. Marvel comics is on the verge of opening up a new world to many of us not familiar with the world of comics book adventures
