Photography Phenom, Tyler Mitchell

Anna Wintour, Editor and Chief of Vogue Magazine since 1988, just did something unprecedented. She’s allowed Beyonce, total and complete control over the cover shoot for the upcoming September issue (Kanye is probably sick right now). Of course, in pure Beyonce fashion, she did some truly epic and amazing. Beyonce chose a 23-year-old black photographer by the name of Tyler Mitchell to shoot her cover. What makes this even more amazing is that Tyler will be the first black photographer to shoot a Vogue cover in the magazine’s 126 year history.

Since 1988, Anna Wintour has had complete control over Vogue America’s covers, including outfits worn by models and the final selection of pictures. For September, Beyonce has contractually gained complete control over every aspect of the cover. According to a source for the Huffington Post, the added:

“The reason a 23-year-old black photographer is photographing Beyoncé for the cover of Vogue is because Beyoncé used her power and influence to get him that assignment.” ~a source to HuffPost

Tyler Mitchell may be young, but he has already taken the fashion industry by storm. He has already shot campaigns for Marc Jacobs and Givenchy. In December’s issue of the New York Post, Tyler Mitchell discussed his passion for photography, he stated:

“I depict black people and people of color in a really real and pure way, there is an honest gaze to my photos.”

Beyonce was last on the cover of Vogue in 2015 and had no creative control; her appearance still made headline because she didn’t grant the publication a sit-down interview. In the 2018 September issue, she still will not grant Vogue a sit-down interview; we will only be able to bask in the history-making photography shot by Tyler Mitchell – and we’re cool with that.

It’s the anniversary of Lemonade. Beyonce’s groundbreaking album is still being talked about, recently earning a prestigious Peabody award as,“a sublime piece of work in the scripted television field.” On the anniversary of this epic album, Bey is focused on continuing to take the message of girl empowerment by awarding some very special young women around the country.

Through her website, Beyonce announced a group of scholarships called the, “Formation Scholars“. This scholarship program was created to, “encourage and support young women who are unafraid to think outside the box and are bold, creative, conscious and confident.” Naturally, these scholarships are geared toward young girls studying creative arts, music, literature, or African American Studies. There will be one award given out at each of the following institutions: Boston’s Berklee College of Music; Howard University in Washington, D.C.; Parsons School of Design in New York City; and Atlanta’s Spelman College. Two of these schools are Historically black institutions and the other two are colleges geared toward the arts.

Although there are no details as to the amount of money awarded; anything helps in the world of academics and college expenses. Thank you to artists like Chance the Rapper, Beyonce and a plethora of other artists who continue to support the arts, give back to their communities, and try to make the world a better place by being an influence and making it happen for the betterment of the culture. BRAVO.

As the Bey Hive waits patiently for the new album to drop, Queen Bey drops a clothing line instead (GOTEEEEM)! Today Beyonce dropped some powerful visuals for her new clothing line Ivy Park for all you sportswear, fitness and fashion gurus out there; (or the ones that just like to pretend they’re working out so they can post pictures).

Ivy Park is s sleek fashion line, equipped with headbands, yoga apparel, hats and sweats. Good to see Beyonce thinking outside the box and not creating just another fashion line of dresses and heels (yawn). As if the clothing wasnt enough, she dropped some cool visuals featuring her dancers who appear to be working out in the clothing, Blue Ivy also made and appearance and rocked some gear from her mom’s collection.

So yes fellas! You can add Ivy Park to your shopping list for your misses.
