Amidst the continuous stream of sexual assault and harassment allegations in Hollywood and in Washington; it seems as if women and men have been have been speaking out on almost on a weekly basis, for the past few months. We’ve been hearing about traumatic experiences, from both sexes, of how they have been violated by powerful executives in politics, and behind the big screen. These women and men have been applauded, and Time Magazine has even decided that the Time Magazine’s Person of the Year would be dedicated to “The Silence Breakers”.
But, has anyone ever wondered what the parents of these victims must be going through? Many of the victims were young, and some of them were children when they were assaulted by these execs – no parent would want to imagine their child experiencing such a horrible violation. Unfortunately, at least one parent has had to come to terms about being the father of a child who was assaulted in Hollywood; and he is telling the world via his Twitter account. The irony is, this parent is Harold Perrineau, and he is a successful actor in Hollywood and has been for many years, starring in some of the industry’s biggest television shows and movies. We know him from Lost, The Matrix, The Best Man, Oz and his list goes on and on. But today, this accomplished actor isn’t playing a role, and he isn’t practicing for Broadway. Today Perrineau has decided to give us a look into the real life of a father who is dealing with the reality of one of the loves of his life, being raped. He is speaking his truth, and calling out the man that violated his daughter, Aurora when she was 17.
In his Twitter message, Perrineau is speaking directly to Murray Miller, director and creator of the HBO show “Girls” who has been accused of raping his Aurora when she was teen. Miller is currently under investigation; Miller’s attorney’s even issued a statement that Aurora and her family demanded money, but later came back and retracted those claims.
Perrineau, in his Twitter statement, said that he drew his strength from his daughter Aurora, after noticing her stand up and speak out about what she says happened to her. Though these claims are still being investigated, Perrineau wants to let Miller and the countless number of other men in the industry know, they have “Fuc*ed with the wrong family!” Read the entire Twitter post below.
“What do you do when you are watching your wife not eat or sleep? What do you say when you realized you couldn’t protect your child?”
From his short, but passionate message, there are only a few things that a dad can do after discovering the violation of his daughter. Perrineau has decided to stand alongside his daughter, be supportive, and FIGHT.
