By now, millions of you have just finished watching the Black Panthers – Vanguard of the Revolution documentary featured on PBS tonight. No matter how well-versed you are on the subject of Black American History, tonight we all learned something new from this documentary. The story told by Stanley Nelson, could not have come at a more pertinent time. Since the Super Bowl, The Black Panthers have been the topic of much discussion. This week alone, we have seen many refer to the Panthers as a hate group, while others ascribe them as revolutionaries and freedom fighters. Nelson’s documentary dives in to the personal lives and struggles of Black Panther members; showing the complexities of young men and women fighting merely for the respect of their own identities within a turbulent society.

If you missed it, head on over to PBS.org right now to find details on how you can view the first ever feature length documentary that explores, in depth, The Black Panther Party. One of the cool add-ons is that PBS offers study guides, film clips, soundtracks, and questions & answers for all things related to the Black Panther movement, Click Here to explore and hit the image below to check out the cool study guide that can be used to teach children.
