A federal judge has ordered Apple to unlock the Iphone used by one of the San Bernardino shooters and Tim Cook has responded opposing this order. The Apple CEO believes that his company has willingly complied with all of the demands as far as obtaining any available data needed to hand over to the FBI. However, there is still encrypted data located in the Iphone and Tim Cook and Apple are not willing to create any programs that would allow anyone to access this encrypted personal information. Tim believes that what you have stored in your phone is ‘none of their business’ and he wants to keep it this way.
According to NBC News, The FBI is trying to use a 230 year-old law to force Apple to break through the encryption on its iPhones. Make no mistake, your phone company may already have these backdoor applications available; however, Iphone CEO Tim Cook wants to fight the power.
Tim Cook just released an unprecedented open letter to all of its customers warning them of the “dangerous and chilling” request from the FBI. Cook is taking a strong stance against the FBI who wants to force Apple to create a back door encryption technology which will circumvent current security features. Cook says, “in the wrong hands, this software – which does not exist today – would have the potential to unlock any Iphone in someone’s physical possession.”
The FBI is promising that the technology would only be used on a case by case basis, but Apple claims that the government cannot guarantee the backdoor application will not be abused if it ended up in the wrong hands. Also, the government already has a suspect history of illegally obtaining information (see COINTELPRO for more details). Tim Cook is adamant about making certain this type of technology does not get in the hands of a hacker or a government official that my potentially abuse its power.
With the government basically trying to force Apple to hack their own customer’s Tim Cook has issued this powerful response and Iphone users all over the country are applauding him for his stance. However you feel about Apple and its products, you have to give it up to Tim Cook for taking a stand and protecting its customers – against their own government. (perplexed)
Thank you for fighting back Tim Cook. Keep 📱🔒
