There has been a downward spiraling debate ever since Friday when The Breakfast Club interviewed comedian, Lil Duval. Today, members of the Transgender community got to express their outrage directly at one of the members of The Breakfast Club, Charlemagne Tha God, during his Politican appearance with MSNBC in Pasedena, CA. Charlemagne was at Politicon to talk hip-hop and politics on the Democracy Village stage, when the panel endured protests by women screaming at the morning show host that, “Trans Lives Matter”. Check out this clip below:

Trans women and supporters across the internet have vowed to boycott The Breakfast Club because of the comments made by comedian, Lil Duval on Friday. Lil Duval was asked about being fooled into having sex with someone who did not reveal the fact that they were once a man. In the interview Lil Duval stated, “this might sound messed but, but i don’t care – she dying.” Charlemagne then responded, “no, that’s a hate crime, you can’t do that.” Though, The Breakfast Club did not condone violence against transgender people, for many, they morning show did not take a serious-enough stand against what Lil Duval had said. Check out parts 1 and 2 of the interview below.

Again, what we did see is that The Breakfast Club, at no time during this interview, condoned violence against transgender people. What we also saw however, was that the stance they chose when it was time to speak up against what Lil Duval said, was a weak one. We saw a conversation about the possibility of someone being murdered, mixed with giggles and jokes – this is when the laughs should have ceased. Had this been an interview with Sean Hannity where guests were jokingly mocking the killing of a black person, no one would think this was funny.

Right now many are calling for the firing of the Breakfast Club, they are asking people to call iHeartMedia, MTV, and Revolt in protest of the morning show. Now, many believe some of this is tied to the hatred many listeners have for the outspoken, gritty cohost, Charlemagne Tha God, but is firing the cast asking too much? Are they going too far? It depends on your interpretation of the interview and if you believe The Breakfast Club really supports the murder of transgender people.

Right now, we support the transgender community and their issues with the Breakfast club, and in the meanwhile we will wait to see if the Breakfast Club gives themselves the Donkey of the Day. During these times, we have to remember to respect everyone and their differences, and when we don’t, we will face the consequences.

If you haven’t seen this ad yet, it’s pretty disturbing. It’s the NRA’s way of throwing the rock and hiding their hand as they rally their supporters together with a campaign of fear. The ad ignites Trumpsters by labeling anyone who protests against Trump to arm themselves; the ad infers that people who are not protesting are “law-abiding citizens” while protesters are violent, smashing windows, burning cars, bullying and terrorizing law-abiding citizens. It is propaganda 101, and it is the type of propaganda that will work with a not-so-smart, gun toting, weak person filled with fear.

As far as anyone who has ever protested, we should all take this video as an act of violence and a threat to us personally, and to the democracy that gives a person the right to protest. Spreading a message that protesters are fighting with the“violence of lies” and the only way to stop them is with the “clenched fist of truth” is slowly pouring fuel on the fire for tensions brewing here in the U.S.

Tamika Mallory drafted an open letter to the NRA demanding that they take down the ad and apologize to the American people. The NRA responded by creating another four minute clip titled, “We Don’t Apologize for Telling The Truth”

What we have to understand is that here in America, groups like the NRA believe in the freedom to do certain things, like the right to bear arms, and only those freedoms that benefit them, and people like them. Protesting is just as much of a right as bearing arms, however because it does not fit into the agenda of the Trump administration and the NRA, their job is to turn people against it protesters by doing what they do best, initiating fear.

The @womensmarch & I made 3 demands of the @NRA and we stand by them. We are waiting for a real response. pic.twitter.com/ASKMPye5mV

The founder of the Women’s March are asking that folks join in on a March Against the NRA, July 14, 2017 to show the NRA that women will not be intimidated. The mass demonstration will be held in Virginia, but they are asking that anyone who believes in the rights of all people join in solidarity for the cause.

We really want to like this children’s book…but wait…

You’ve probably seen this Facebook ad come down your timeline. A video of a very cool children’s book featuring the dopest hip-hop artists from the 90’s, with Jay Z’s 99 Problemsplaying in the background, immediately catches anyone’s attention. Check it out here:

With really cool pastel caracature’s of all of our faves, this children’s book, “From A B to Jay Z” introducing kid’s to the best of what hip-hop has to offer is really a great idea! However, the internet, or should we say, #BlackTwitter is in somewhat of a kerfuffle today after learning about the creators of this really cool book.

Hol UP…

It started when someone asked, “Little Mr & Mrs Cheeky – Kids & Mum Clothing”, a vendor who was carrying this book, if the publication was created by a black person. This is when all hell broke loose on Twitter. The response to the question by the vendor, was in itself, questionable for sure, but it would only lead internet sleuths to search for more info on this hip-hop friendly company.

The Side Eye

The condescending answer from the vendor caused folks to really look in to who were the creators of this children’s book. Many were shocked at what they found. The book was created by an Australian woman who claims to be a lover of hip-hop. The book is also promoted by her husband to also claims to have an affinity for hip-hop, but something just doesn’t seem right.

Oh, but wait….it gets worse…

#BlackTwitter dug up the Facebook page of the author’s husband, a guy named Danny Chiha, who posted pictures with friends posing in black face in 2008. The comments on this post include, “hahhahahahahaha yo niggas!! robby u definitely look sexier as a nigga!!

(Note: Since this story has gone viral, the creators of this book are attempting to clean up their social media pages…however…screenshots are a bitch, aren’t they?)

With all this talk about cultural appropriation, and blacks not making money from their culture when other cultures are able to make make millions from black culture, it is reaching a breaking point where many of had enough.

The creators of this book have already raised over $8000 with their Kickstarter campaign, where they state, “A B to Jay-Z is for the next generation of hood rats…

See, the problem that many have with this book is bigger than simply another instance of whites making money from black culture. What makes this book simply annoying is the mockery of black culture. It’s the black face images that blacks in America have had to fight since the inception of movies and television here in the U.S. that we see plastered across the pages of the creators. It is the obvious undertones of these new, millennial, Sambo-type references that simply makes the book annoying as f&ck.
corny

Despite the fact that no one is really sure if they can legally use the images and likenesses seen in this book, the concept is still very cool. As of yesterday the book was sold out, meaning there are probably tons of blacks who’ve purchased this book for themselves or their kids.

Now there will be those who believe that the creators of A B to Jay-Z are Australian, so they may have a disconnect when it comes to racism and black imagery in America. That argument is completely ridiculous. Australia is the same place where the Prime Minister, Kevin Rudd, had to issue an apology to the Aboriginal people of this continent due to the murders, corruption, and mistreatment they have received for centuries. So to think that white Australians have a disconnect when it comes to racism is far from reality.

sorry

In the end, every consumer has a choice. However, as an African American consumer, it is our duty to make sure that our dollars stop ending up in the hands of those who do not genuinely respect us.
