The story of Shondell Williamson has become a real-life nightmare to many women across the world. These women are not only victims of domestic violence, they are victims of what social media has deemed “the fragility of the male ego”. With this fragility comes, jealousy, hate and violence. These domestic violence victims are members of an unfortunate class of women who have been scarred by their abusers for life – both internally and externally. They are acid-attack survivors, and they have joined forces for one cause only – to tell women to leave abusive relationships NOW!
acid

In Williamson’s case, this 26-year-old mother of two boys did leave her abuser, 34-year-old Alfred DeYounge. However, months after the breakup, DeYounge disguised himself as a woman and stood outside of his ex’s home. Williamson had just had a conversation with DeYounge, where he made it seem as if he was at home. As she approached the “woman” outside her home, she slowly realized it was her ex, carrying a white bowl. Inside this white bowl was a corrosive substance that he threw on her, thereafter quickly escaping in a nearby car. Williamson was rushed to the hospital, given a bath and treated for injuries which included first degree burns to her face, hands and abdomen. She was also unable to open her left eye, and at the time it was unclear if the eye was damaged.

Shondell Williamson warns women who are currently in a place where she once some words of encouragement, she warns, “just dont stay any longer, just get out of it fast.” She also has words for men and young boys who suffer from a violent and fragile male ego,“we are like your mothers, if you don’t raise your hand to your mother, why are you raising your hand to your woman”, she asks?

Unfortunately, this type of attack against women is not new. Acid attacks against women are happening all over the world. There is even a campaign #SkillsNotScars that helps acid attack victims to find work. Once these women’s faces have been destroyed by men they thought loved him, many of these women suffer financially because their scars make it difficult for them to find work. The organization, Skills Not Scars empowers women and gives a platform for employment.

#SkillsNotScars is empowering acid attack survivors by helping them get jobs.

Although this horrific act of violence was committed against Shondell Williamson, she continues to be positive, she believes she is a living testimony and that God has spared her life for a reason. It is obvious that her life will be used to save other women who are victims, or potential victims of this type of violence.

Thank you Shondell.

Roddy White is not only a former player for the Atlanta Falcons, he grew up right outside of the Holy City in James Island, South Carolina. Roddy White has been giving back to kids around the country, and here in his home state via the “Keep the Faith Foundation”. According to the Foundation’s website:

“The Foundation provides scholarships in a variety of areas. We provide scholarships for 4 year colleges, 2 year colleges, trade/technical schools, schools of the arts, and those that may need to attend prep school out of high school. The main concern of the foundation is to help enhance the experience of those who have a desire to continue their education or training in whatever field they desire.”

Right now White’s foundation is accepting applications for ten students to earn $500 scholarships. White is calling this, “Roddy’s Rockstar Scholarship”, and it’s available to any student in Georgia or South Carolina who plans on attending a post-secondary institution, who demonstrates academic achievement and community involvement. Also, the student should have at least a 2.5 GPA or higher.

“Our goal is to help enhance the experience of those who have a desire to continue their education or training in their chosen field,” explained Roddy White.

So, click HERE and get started. Remember, you will need a copy of your current transcript and an acceptance letter to the college you will be attending. You will also need a letter of recommendation from a teacher, manager, coach, community leader, etc. You will also need to provide an essay where you describe your character, academic performance, future goals, and community involvement, in at least 300 words.

“It didn’t take very long; it took a few days,” said Nia Mya Reese, the 8-yr-old Amazon Best Selling author from Birmingham, Alabama who penned, “How to Deal With & Care for Your Annoying Little Brother”.

Nia Mya has reached star status online, in her school, and community as a best-selling author of a book about her little brother. She took something simple she has experience doing and penned it into a cute book, filled with love and guidance.

Nia Mya Reese’s project started out as a first-grade assignment. Her mother used that assignment as a summer reading project to improve Nia Mya’s writing, spelling, and sentence structure. Thanks to Nia Mya’s family, they were able to develop this book into an actual publication that has taken the Amazon parenting section by storm.

Nia Mya Reese’s stated in her interview with CBS, that this project helps other kids realize that they can follow their own dreams.

Business Lessons

There are a few lessons to be learned from Nia Mya Reese’s success.
1) She took something that she was good at and used that to create her book.
2) Keep It Simple – she didn’t need to do much research. She wrote the book in a few days because she was already an expert in being a great big sister.
3) Have a great mentor/adviser – Without encouragement from her mother and teacher, the book that Nia Mya had inside of her may have never happened. Keep yourself surrounded by others who can bring those gifts out of you.
4) Market your Product- You have to TELL people about what you’re doing. Nia had a book signing and was able to get news coverage from all over the country about her book. Even the mayor showed up at her book signing. Marketing and promoting your product or business is key.
5) Have fun – Nia Mya Reese was able to disguise learning and make it fun. Making it fun makes it easier to work on a project or business.

On a Sunday morning, when most are resting up to prepare for another week on the grind, or some are attending morning services at their place of worship, a small group of confederate flag protesters decided send a early morning political message to the NCAA.

Greenville, South Carolina is hosting the NCAA Tournament this year at the Bon Secours Wellness Arena, and today the group of protesters, pickup trucks and all, raised the confederate battle flag from the back of a truck. The plan is for the flag to remain on the stadium grounds, throughout the tournament to be seen by fans entering and leaving the arena.

This “protest” is in response to the 2002 march held in downtown Greenville by the NCAAP protesting the battle flag flying on Statehouse grounds during the NCAA regional in Greenville. It is also in response to the ban against South Carolina being lifted in 2015 after the flag was removed from the S.C. Statehouse.

The goal of the protesters, according the Associated Press, is to “make their presence known to the NCAA.”

On Sunday, March 19th, North Carolina is scheduled to play Arkansas, and Duke will play South Carolina.

Meet Georgia middle school social studies teacher, Mr. Yancy. Yancy has gone viral again, for all the right reasons. Mr. Yancy is one of those teachers; you know, the kind we use to have back in the day. Mr. Yancy is the type of teacher that can effectively communicate with students, he’s relatable , he makes learning fun, AND he uses effective teaching techniques to make students remember what they’ve learned.

Mr. Yancy used the details from the Civil War, and put a pop-culture spin on it. He took the Migos most recent hit, “Bad & Boujee” and remixed it into a history lesson called , “Mad & Losing”. Instead of “my bitch is bad and boujee” this remix states, “my troops are mad and losing,” in reference to General Grant and the Emancipation Proclamation! Now THIS is a great way of taking history and pop culture, and intertwining it to make learning fun.

Last year Mr. Yancy remixed Adele’s “Hello” to teach his students about the Cherokee and that “dumb treaty”. Peep how the kids go from trying to contain their laughter, to singing along. Mr. Yancy – you’re truly dope!
