#Voting Squad

So, do you have your voting squad? Michelle Obama, despite her family being threatened with pipe bombs, have been working nonstop to get voters to the polls, especially during these midterm elections. Her latest campaign is called #VotingSquad

“You are the best messengers to get out the vote. You know who’s too busy or too forgetful or who might flake out on Election Day. I want you to reach out to five people in your life, in your family, at your school, your congregation, wherever. Just pick at least five people for your Voting Squad. Then do whatever it takes to get them to vote. Tag each other on Instagram and Facebook. Post group photos. Put everybody on a text chain. And then get to the polls on or before November 6th. Because when we all vote, we all do better.”

The instructions are easy :

  1. Reach out to five people in your life (family, friends, classmates, coworkers, congregation, etc)
  2. Do whatever it takes to get them out to vote (tag them on FB/The Gram, Post photos, text groups)
  3. Then GET TO THE POLLS on, or before November 6th
  4. Go sign up your squad at WhenWeAllVote.org/Squad

Remember, we are only 11 days away, so make your voice heard.

For the ninth year in a row, respondents participated in a Gallup Poll and they have ranked President Barack Obama as the most admired man in the United States. In what some are calling a, not-so-surprising defeat, Donald Trump came in second.

Historically the most admired men and women in Gallup polls tend to be sitting or incoming Presidents and first ladies, however Donald Trump’s numbers are below what President-elect Obama’s numbers were back in 2008. Obama as President elect had about a 32 percent support ranking in ’08; however Donald Trump’s numbers are higher than President-elect George Bush’s numbers in 2000, which was only at around a 5% ranking.

Hillary Clinton ranked as the Most Admired Woman for the 15th year in a row, and the 21st time overall. Since her stint as First Lady in 1993, she has only lost the number one spot three times, in ’95 and ’96, to Mother Teresa, and again in 2001, to First Lady Laura Bush. Michelle Obama came in second among Most Admired Women.

Shortly after the news broke regarding the Gallup poll revealing 15% of the respondents chose Trump, compared to 22% of the respondents choosing President Obama, and 12% choosing Hillary Clinton, Donald Trump began tweeting critical remarks about President Obama making his transition into the role of President difficult.

“They seem to view our diversity as a threat to be contained rather than as a resource to be tapped. They tell us to be afraid of those who are different, to be suspicious of those with whom we disagree. They act as if name-calling is an acceptable substitute for thoughtful debate. As if anger and intolerance should be our default state rather than optimism and openness that have always been the engine of our progress.”

These are a eloquent words First Lady Michelle Obama delivered to the 2016 graduation class at City College in New York City. As 2016 winds down and the political race for our next President heats up, the President and his Wife are continuing to make their mark in the history books. We can see it daily, especially within the last year, the Obamas are creating legislation and addressing many issues that are adversely affecting the poor and black/Hispanic communities. This commencement speech is one of the most powerful, politically fueled and motivational speeches we have heard thus far from the First Lady. it almost appears as if she is taking direct shots at Donald Trump and those with similar views as Trump.

“The greatness of the United States, has never come from folks who climbed the ladder of success or who happened to be born near the top and then pulled the ladder up after themselves. No, uh-uh, Our greatness has always come from people who expect nothing and take nothing for granted, folks who work hard for what they have and then reach back and help others after them. That is your story, graduates, and that is the story of your families. And it’s the story of my family, too.”

Man, just admit it! We are going to miss this First Family! (crying emoji)
